Far from being the dull and dreary learning of grammar and inflections, Latin is the study of ancient civilization, its art, literature, philosophy, music, theatre, and much more.

Latin is all around us. How often do we speak about the time a.m. or p.m. etcetera, vice versa, or pro forma? Pupil, school, and lessons are all words that derive from Latin, as is university and profession.

Studying Latin leads to better grades in English and modern languages, and studying it to GCSE or beyond helps focus the mind on the detail of how we speak. It’s also an introduction to some of the greatest literature ever written: all the most sophisticated thoughts of the western world have been expressed in Latin.

Latin is taught from beginner-level up to Oxbridge preparation and university level. I love Latin, and I always hope to teach pupils to do the same!
